You Were One 03:42
atie my girl I don't know why, you do not see me for the ways that you are but I'm so in love with you I don't know about you staring so blankly, just filling time finally you open, and you're heavy on wine but it's only part of you there so much more you could do I was just looking, for truth of the song the child of the free bird the bringer of the song You were one, you were one, You wrote the bird song, I was just singing along. I've always tried to fraternise with my idols and heroes with the sparks in their eyes 'cause I wanted to be like you but now I'm not sure if I do I was just thinking you were born to run a child of the free bird the bringer of song you were one... I guess I was just lucky, I was born around the gifted who are givers, they gave me their song and they were free like birds in the ways they used their words I was just looking for truth of the song, the child of the free bird, the bringer of the song You were one...

Volvo Door 03:02
You walked away and I regretted everything that I just said straight away, Didn't take any number of days to see it that way it just was what it was and now I’m left with all this doubt, nothing more and nothing less and now its out i wanna die You drove away, not a word did you say To make me feel okay. Not a thing. Just the sound of the Volvo door and the engine cold, cold as the days since I’ve been here and you don’t phone and I call, I don’t go out, I stay inside, I wanna die. You didn't want me and I didn’t want you, until we did, exactly what i said exactly what you said oh what a way. to tell me, to find out, I wanna die. They, they say, I'll get over you and the things I do will mean much more Once I forget the sound of the Volvo door but I don’t want, I don’t want to I just want you to stay in my memory this way to justify, to prove to I, to tell the lie, I wanna die. You didn't want me...

Well it's dry in Reno, its dry in Spain I fear I'll never see the rain again It’s hot in hell, its hotter up here still we'll just act like we always had the will Will I be sorry? Will I regret? buyer’s remorse on crystal meth, I lose my will and I lose my way. it's too surreal to be real anyway And I know, we’ll be the ones to ask why and I know, we’ll set the world on fire I’ll burn for money, I’ll burn for coal, I’ll burn for the cost of saving my sole I’ll burn for the chance just to have nothing to do I’ll burn for you, babe you know I will Now I find beauty in the strangest things, I have learnt to accommodate, little bags with smaller bags in still, perfect for blocking oil spills And I know... The mother we never knew that we had a mother for the lonely, for the good, for the bad, I can't look, but I can't look away, I can’t bear to see her in this way Well it’s death to the winners, death to the losers, death to sinners, to the long-line-choosers death to the liars, to the climate deniers death to me and you, no matter what we do And I know…

Adeline 03:29
Adeline, Adeline, I won’t see you for a while, see you in my dreams my Adeline And in time, time, I will come to realise I’ll wish that you were mine my Adeline It’s the fourteenth again, I don’t need no other friends every year my Valentine my Adeline Adeline Adeline taken before your time like a glass of morning wine my Adeline Well I’ll see you in my dreams and I will feel you in my heart but never in my mind my Adeline I guess this is goodbye, I will make peace, I’ll walk a mile, But I’ll keep you in my mind my Adeline I feel a pull my love, haunting from above, the one that never was my Adeline I feel incomplete, the one we couldn’t keep, the price I pay for sleep my Adeline Well I'll see you in my dreams... Left you in the dark the poor girl didn’t get a start My child, my unborn queen, my Adeline. Adeline Adeline no light will touch your heart be the light in mine my Adeline and when the dark takes mine you'll be there for to shine shimmer for me bright my Adeline Well I’ll see you in my dreams…

Out Of You 03:45

Delia 03:04
Delia was a gambling girl, Delia was a gambling girl and she laid her money down, she’s all I’ve got and gone Delia's mama weeped, Delia’s Daddy moaned, they wouldn’t have hated quite so much if only Delia had died at home, she’s all I’ve got and gone Delia, Delia, why didn’t you run? when Kurtis came chasing you with that flaming 44-six gun? She's all I’ve got and gone Brother tied a carriage, with a double seated hack to carry Delia down to the graveyard but it would not carry her back, she’s all I’ve got and gone. Delia, Delia, how could it be? you wanted all those gambling men but you had no time for me, she’s all I got and gone.

I’m a lonesome cowboy, last one of my kind Gonna make you take this ride tonight I’m long gone in the night babe, long gone taken flight gonna make you ride with me tonight. Well postures are heavy, from endless days of nights I’m hunched over ready, we'll straighten out tonight I'll loosen the heavy burden of your life. I know you cowgirl, i know you from inside I know you need this ride tonight. I’ll take you with me, we’ll do it, in the comfort of the twine You’re open, ready, steady from the heavy glow of wine I’ll beg you, to stay with me a while. I’m a lonesome cowboy last one on the scene Gonna take you, take you for a dream I’ll take you with me, I’ll teach you to let yourself be wild, It’s been a long time baby, we’re lost but love is blind If we go looking, treasure we will find.

I was lying in the sun, producing a hat, making everybody watch me awkwardly dance, lying in the sun about what I had, watching my chance just burn like a match… well you might say he don't care to look at him, complacency does what it will with me, doubt doesn't have to knock to come in, I welcome the things that end up in sin, and I burn like a match... I don't think I'll be back again why would you offer me after my sin don't put on your dress until you're ready to go you finished your hair with hours to go and you burn like a match... Why oh why oh why did I do that?

Buried Alive 03:28
Well you still wear the scare you bore when you were only ten, hit head of the table that your daddy did make, chasing him out the door after your family's war, you couldn't 've known then you wouldn't see that man again. But don’t let that scare you don’t let it brew, don’t fail yourself just cause he failed you, you can live the way you want a make it on your own ‘cause a woman's heart is made out of gold. Buried alive any day buried alive on your own buried alive in your home town girl, no one would ever know but you. Well Katie was a lover and a carer most of all, she carry the whole world and it's mother in her arms, but when love doesn't grow it gets stunted and impaired, that's not to say it's beyond repair. You've been tied down and pinned back your childish self-esteem, I'm as bad as you babe and we're both as bad as me, we never learned how to yearn, or let our passions burn, but you know it's never too late to learn. Buried Alive... Let's go on over up to the snowy mountain hills, we'll take our little child and protect him from the chill, cause all we know is all we are and all we are is all we do, that's something you taught me now I teach you. Buried Alive...

Tom 04:08
I never told you, that I loved you, I never said that to you. Now you're in the ground and I am walking around on land, I find that pretty hard to understand. You died young, in the summer, it was winter where I am. Your family, your mother your father, your brother and your sister, I just wished I could lend a hand. I hadn't seen you in a long time, we never got around to that drink at mine the days they pass when you're young you think that you have many at least you lived yours like you didn't. We grew up together, without you around I wouldn't half the man I am now. But girls and bands and always making grander plans, only now do I understand. I will never say goodbye and you will never again cry people will cry for you and they'll keep living their lives too, what else can we do? Your name was Tom. You took on the world you touched many hearts. Mine was just one of the first, I am nobody special, one thing’s for sure, you were.

Prove 03:42
I wanna make this work, I wanna pass. I wanna show you how I can manoeuvre past. I wanna make a difference, wanna right my wrongs. I wanna prove that I've learnt, prove I'm moving on. I wanna prove it to you. When I was 28 I lost a good old friend. Now he lives on inside. He inspires me. I know that I could die and leave nothing behind I want my son to talk about me when he's old and I want to prove it to you. We are not here too long under the sun. Seems like a waste of time to not spend it young. I wanna make this title something I am proud of. I wanna show my mum, I wanna be excited. I wanna prove it to you.

about

Sunroom Studios is an all analogue home studio set in the beautiful township of Whian Whian, surrounded by rain forest, mountains, wrecked old farm sheds and cicadas. All of this added to the feel of the album.

We recorded to a two-track tape machine for the original bed tracks (just me on acoustic guitar) then moved it to the hefty 16-track tape machine to add layers of electric guitar, vocal harmonies, bass, violin, harmonium and harmonica.

No computers were used in the recording of this album. A Roland Space Echo (early tape delay unit) was used for the delay. And the half-full, subterranean, concrete water tank was used for the reverberation. The album was also recorded in mono, to give it an authentic 1960's sound

The recording of this album was a magic time for me. It all flowed in such an organic way, it gained it's own momentum. We didn't plan to make a full album until it was already happening. The producer, 'Whitey' did an amazing job of not only capturing the best sounds I've ever heard in a studio, but also of bringing the best out of me, making me feel absolute comfortable, confident and at home. The guitar tones, the vocal sounds... I've never heard myself like this before.
